Special Event with Kodomo & AKID

This past Saturday I had the pleasure of attending a special event at newly launched South End store, kodomo, in collaboration with West Coast kids' shoe brand AKID, known for its comfortable and unique styles. Not only was the event lovely, but they were celebrating AKID's launch in Boston by helping a nobel cause. During the event, the owners donated 500 pairs of shoes to Home for Little Wanderers. This is a nonprofit providing services and programs for childhood and family development for families living in at-risk circumstances.

I was able to meet Ashleigh Dempster, the founder of AKID, as well as Meredith and Nancy from Home for Little Wanderers -- all very inspiring women!

The store was bustling with shoppers enjoying hot cups of espresso and Blackbird Doughnuts with their littles while trying on all sorts of stylish AKID shoes. One could even get their shoes monogrammed by Lettering by Liz, right in the store if they wished to do so. It was truly an enjoyable afternoon with lots of good conversation, shopping, and positive vibes.

Thanks for another great event Jasmine and ladies at kodomo -- always a pleasure to visit the store and see you all!

Girls Fashion Blog: Abstract print dress

We are loving this new take on the classic camo pattern. The vibrant blue collar and matching front pocket add a nice solid touch to this otherwise pattern-filled shirt dress. N wasn't interested in showing her face and the front of the dress, and that's OK because the back of the dress is equally interesting.

The orange and blue color combination is great for fall too! Pair with your favorite sandals or flats and this outfit will surely get a lot of compliments. Click the link below for more details!

girls fashion blog: Tuesday's twirl-worthy tulle goodness

What do you do when you have freshly painted walls, an unfurnished room, and brand new beautiful twirl-worthy tulle skirts? You put on your skirts and get to twirling, of course!

This was like a dream come true for the girls. If you've been following this blog for a while, you know we are (I am) not into princess-y dressing. If I let my older one dress herself, she'd be a giant  "pink butterfly unicorn rainbow princess." But we still love to tulle - just a tad differently!

When I saw these skirts, I just HAD to have them. I have been looking for some fun and bright skirts for the girls for an upcoming festival of Diwali, an Indian wedding, and just for dressing up when they feel like. These skirts have a little shimmer, and look so lovely in the sunlight! Believe it or not, most of our clothes are still packed since the move a couple of weeks ago. So we improvised and paired the skirts with whatever we had readily available! We love the look of combining casual tees with these skirts. I would even try a chambray shirt and add some cute boots.

As you can tell, the girls were having a blast! And I honestly don't ever want to furnish that room. Those bare walls and that light are a photographer mom's dream come true!

NYC Summer Adventures: We walk the High line

I had a very memorable weekend with the girls in New York City back in July. Impromptu trips are the best, aren't they? My husband had a work trip to New York, and one of my weekend shoots got rescheduled so we decided to tag along last minute. We visited family in NJ for two days, which was awesome, and then spent two days just hanging out and enjoying the city.

Day 1: We went to Bryant Park, rode the Le Carrousel, and enjoyed the Reading Room (kid-sized furniture and book carts with a variety of books you can pick up and read). My aunt joined us for this fun day in the city so while the girls enjoyed flipping through the books, we enjoyed an iced coffee and simply relaxed. It was a Tuesday afternoon, and somehow there's more thrill in taking time off mid-week and breaking the norm. We had lunch, ice cream, walked around and window shopped, but the girls definitely ran out of steam by 4 p.m. We went back to the hotel, had a quick nap, and then the three of us went for a quiet dinner since daddy was still at work. I didn't want to carry my camera around all day, it was fun to be fully present in these memorable moments.

Day 2: One thing I definitely wanted to do was walk the High Line with the girls. I had done the walk before and wanted the girls to experience that as well. It was warmer than we would have liked it to be but we were still troopers and almost finished the 1.45 mile walk. It was a fun-filled learning experience for them. They still remember all the "key words" from the trip - Hudson river, Queen Anne's Lace (flower), yellow cabs etc. We enjoyed the city views, took an ice cream break (of course!), sat on the benches for a while, had other tourists take our picture together - it was perfect!

After High Line, we went to SoHo for lunch, visited a local park, and headed back to the hotel. I am so glad I got to share my love for the city with the girls. I cherished my quality time with them - teaching, exploring, and building memories. We wished daddy could have joined us too, but we were still very content with our girls (extended) weekend in the city!

Girls Fall Transition Clothing: Comfy & Chic

It's definitely time to talk transition clothing! This bold striped sweatshirt is the perfect comfy yet chic look. Paired with classic blue jeans, it makes for a great everyday outfit. Of course, don't forget to add a pop of color with these fringed mocassins!

If I had it my way, I would dress the girls in this easy and simple outfit every school morning, at least. No ironing, no multiple pieces of clothing - skirts, tights, top, cardigan. Just two simple pieces especially for when the weather is guaranteed to be in the 60s and you know the kids are not going to be hot in a sweatshirt even at the playground.

Patterns for Fall

This green spotted viscose girls dress is great to pair with leggings in the fall. I especially love the look of it with these geometric print leggings, combining their earthy tones. Of course, no fall outfit is complete without a pair of adorable boots! These navy boots stray away from traditional black or brown colored ones and add a solid color to this patterned outfit.

Whimsy Wednesday: Unique Finds

These fun & unique finds can liven up any outfit! This cozy green sweater and playfully designed blue coat are perfect for the upcoming fall weather. The yellow scarf can be paired with many tops for a colorful twist. The backpack with a face is definitely a one-of-a-kind piece for those kids who want to stand out at school. I especially love the butterfly-winged shoes! After all, what child doesn't want to feel like they can fly?
